80's Countdown Weekend

WHO is choosing these songs? How can they play Joan Jett without playing "Do You Wanna Touch?". AND, Shnae O'Conners song was an obsure one..... why did they skip "Nothing Compairs To You?" Billy Ocean had 3 songs on there, but not "Loverboy????" And only ONE Jefferson Starship song? How about "We Built This City??" They played that song over and over again in the 1980's, but not now? There are more, but I will put these out there for you to comment on.....

Dusty, The fact they played so many videos is what was awesome about that format. I didn't mean they needed to play other decades, but do an A-Z on the 80's videos. They missed WAY too many videos from artists. I enjoyed the 1998 version because it was so much more complete than this past weekend's version.l

What a joke, oh goody we get to watch the same videos that VH1 Classic has been repeating for 2 years and get this, in ALPABETICAL ORDER!!!! Thanks but no thanks, you suck VH1 Classic and the people that took over two years ago, you suck. Mark Goodman for your part in this disaster, you suck too. Quit playing the same videos over and over and expand the Playlist you morons at VH1 Classic. The only good thing about the 80's A-Z show was that there was none of that awful Classic/Current video crap. Those are repeats I didn't miss at all. I hate having to write all these negative comments about this channel but they used be the best video channel and have turned into the worst. I can't even watch anymore because it's so repetitive.

I recorded the entire 1998 weekend that Daubs referred to and I have to respectfully disagree. To me, this weekend's program was much better for several reasons.
For one thing, this was about the 80's, not the entire history of music video. I didn't have to sit through a bunch of 90's one hit wonders to get to the good stuff. I also like that VH1 didn't play more than 5 videos by any one artist. In '98 you had to endure 2 hours of Michael Jackson, 2 hours of Madonna, etc. The only thing that was cool about this was seeing videos derived from movies which don't usually make it to the artist's compilation DVD.
The 1998 show was also plagued with technical difficulties the entire weekend. I wanted to record all of it for my personal collection (not an ebay auction) and roughly 20% of what I recorded was unusable. I saw several VH1 "Please Stand By" signs that weekend and they actually ditched a couple of videos halfway through because of problems.
I was also glad they stuck with one host this year and Mark Goodman was a good choice. Sure, it was recorded and repeated but in '98, you had to sit through lengthy intro's by D-list actors. There were a couple of people from Ally McBeal that were recognizable but that's about it.
I watched off and on from the K's to the end and I think the song selection was pretty good. (Except for the two Vinnie Vincent videos.) VH1 didn't pick the obvious video for an artist on several occasions and I like that. If it's available on DVD, why would anyone worry about a video being left out of a countdown show? I like the more obscure stuff anyway and this is the first time I've seen The Producers and Roman Holiday on a VH1 special.
So give credit where credit is due, folks. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Thats why they make chocolate and vanilla.

OK, Gang, I've been unable to remedy a bad situation:

Earlier, I thought I'd posted the Midnight - 6AM listings from yesterday morning (09/01). I got rid of the listings both off my videotape & my computer. Now I realized, OH CR@P! They're not there!

So I gone back & typed out, to the best of my recollection, which videos appeared during those 6 hours, trying to keep in mind which vids started blocks, ended blocks, where the breaks came, which non-rotation artists did they mix in the current rotation clips, etc.

So first off, I apologize to all you guys & gals for not rechecking my work before I got rid of those listings.

Should any of you still have any of the 09/01 12AM - 6AM listings, I'll post the vids I recall in an adjunct post on my playlist bunker thread, and hopefully someone can post an update.

I agree, some of the song choices are a little lacking. But I have an alphabetizing complaint for the powers that be.

You don't play "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson with the W's. Danny Wilson is a band, not a guy. It should be in the D's. They got their name from an old Frank Sinatra movie.

A little research goes a long way, guys.

There are some flaws(5 Rod Stewart vids and 4 Springsteen?) but I loved seeing some of these that I haven't seen since the 80s. Anyone keepin track of who and what they are playing? I missed a bit of the the first day and night.

I missed this!!!!! Damn it if VH1 Classic didn't start playing a bunch of music videos and I missed it. I just found out about it today (Monday) in the morning. I started recording to DVD-R's immediately of course but missed the first 65 hours or so of the 80 hours of the 80's.

So who is recording it to DVD's and has more than me? Please email me at jason@q1520radio.com to trade. I have SO much stuff - not just DVD's - to trade. Anything from rare radio programs/airchecks, videogames and systems, touchscreen MP3 players, etc.

Hello everyone, you all are right, everytime I watch VH1C on (Totally 80's), They always play the same videos! they need to play different ones and stop cutting everything off! as for This 80's Marathon, I'm enjoying it, I hate those commercials, they need to go, I'm very disappointed several videos were skipped like "19", "I Can Dream About You", and many others, but it's good to have a 24 hour Music Video Marathon again because at 8:00 PM tomorrow, it's sadly over.

This station looked like it was better even two years ago. I've had this station now since March, 2007 - and it's been extremely repetitive since. I've always wondered why Classic couldn't be used to air all the "Behind The Music" episodes instead of JUST the Pantera one.....

This was a great idea gone HORRIBLY wrong. I remember when VH1 did a few "A-Z" weekend deals 10 years ago and they were FANTASTIC. They pulled out a TON of old songs and obscurities.
80 hours of the 80s....30 hours of which turn out to be commercials and John Goodman "breaks" - just serious overkill on that crap.

Some issues had been noted...but for John Parr - how can they ONLY play "Naughty, Naughty" and ignore "St. Elmo's Fire"?

Yeah... I in fact joined the site just to find out why Jody Watley showed up in the Ps. Her collaborators are Erik B and Rakim... No P in sight!!!

Huge failure. I'm not the biggest 80s fan anyway, and since VH1 Classic seems to be VH1 Classic Hair Bands, that just makes it so much worse... I swore after Olympic beach volleyball that I would punish anyone who played Europe's "Carrie." And to top it off, they played The Final Co
