A little bored! Question: Why do you still like music from the 80s?

Me.  Music from nowadays does not do anything for me, what with regaetton, rap, and others. In the 80's there were different types of music that one could listen to - breaks, freestyle, high energy, italo music, new wave, latin hip-hop (I'm not very sure if this is the right title ), metal rock, pop rock, soft rock. You saw a lot of teens and olders dancing on the streets, in the clubs people danced till the other day. Music made you feel alive, it was a happy feeling music. Songs like Stand back-Stevie Nicks, Cruel Summer-Bananarama,Thriller-Michael Jackson, Situation-Yaz, I Ran-A Flock of Seagulls, and hundreds of others.

I totally agree. the 80's music made you feel alive. It put you in that dancing and rockin mood.I also love the 80's music because It brings back the days when you and friends went to see the bands live in concert.today we don't see to many bands in concert. why? they rather make more music cd's than give their fans a concert.

In the 80s your basic radio formats went out the door and videos pushed that envelope over the edge and into the coal mine, just to be topical. What you saw 20 heck almost 30 years ago, was new and inventive, videos were either on film, many remember "Centerfold" by J Geils, then you would have the direct to video, "Mickey" Toni Basil, we remember these things and those songs went to Number 1. Classic music and pop intertwined. Kind of like in the 60s, you probably would have listened to bubble-gum pop like The Archies "Sugar Sugar" when in the same time you could have heard "Cloud Nine" by the Temptations... imagine if there were videos of these made in like 1981. Blow your mind, indeed.

I think part of it for me is the fact that I was a teenager in the 80's, and alot of these songs just bring back some great (well, at least the ones I wasn't too wasted to remember!) memories.

The 80's were a time of great music that had incredible musicianship, but was also just fun to listen to. The market wasn't oversaturated and bands didn't include a lot of filler on their albums. Album cover art was cool and an important aspect of the release. Thankfully, a lot of 80's bands still make music, just on smaller labels and are still popular in other countries - you just need to look.

80's was a decade of rock innovation, everybody tried something different...and the result was some of the best ballads in rock music that you'll probably never hear again. rock back then had a different feeling and rythem that we all could relate to and still do....80's music will never completly go away....bands today just can't live up to it..no matter how good they are today.

To me, most everything today seems so contrived and fluffy (with the exception of some of the alternative bands). There are way too many boy bands (and their spinoffs like Timberlake-ugh!)as well as teenpop sensations (Cyrus, Montana,Spears, Aguilera) that I totally stopped listening to current radio over ten years ago. If I listen to new artists today, it is by way of word of mouth or because I heard a song I like in the movies, etc. The 80s were great because it was so varied. There was some teeny bopper stuff but also A LOT of good independent artists and awesome bands that would likely not get a recording contract today. Even the 80s one hit wonder songs were better than most anything the teeny boppers today could dream of writing. It seems as though the pop stuff and hip hop is saturating the music industry and that is really SAD. I like more alternative bands today; but, I still love 80s new wave, good metal, and great artists like Prince, Genesis, etc. IOW, give me Human League over B. Spears ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. The A&R people must really suck these days. The same thing has happened in Nashville. Very few country artists are really good. Kenny Chesney? - puhlease- a top 40 wannabe with a twang. Where did all the good old and outlaw country go?? After the early 90s even country went pop-like. The best country song in awhile is the murder on music row song by Strait and Jackson. So true. Anyway, sorry for rambling. I must now go listen to Simple Minds and try to feel somewhat better. :-)
