MTV's first video...

Always heard that "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles was the first video that ever aired on MTV.  We didn't get MTV until a couple of years later where I lived, but I always wondered about that one.  Is it still in existence? Does VH-1 Classic ever show it?  I watch the "We Are The 80s" program while I'm working, but it never has aired in the last two or three months (to my knowledge).

when mtv started there were no commercials and 24 hours of music sometimes. It was great. now all the reality shows really bore the music channels to death. VH1 is still pretty good though.

Whatever happened to playing videos on a video station??? That was the whole purpose of tuning in, was to watch all the old videos we have enjoyed over the years. The current programming really needs to be reviewed and get back to the basics. Get Lynn back on doing her video thing!!!!

Ringo, have you noticed the front page of the message board
is two to three days behind on their "latest post" listings?
Is VH1 Classic asleep at the switch or what? Makes it inpossible
to see if someone posted recently.

"Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles appeared on yesterday's (04/25) 8AM hour. Here's the playlist of that hour -

8AM ET - Courtesy of rockman72584

Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle (Live DVD)
Carole King - I Feel The Earth Move
The Carpenters - Close To You

War - Why Can't We Be Friends
James Brown - Papa's Got A Brand New Bag
REO Speedwagon - Time For Me To Fly

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (Live)
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)
The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
The Cars - My Best Friend's Girl (Live)

James Taylor - Fire And Rain (2nd Live Version)
The Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love (Version 2)

AC/DC & Pink Floyd notwithstanding, this looked like an old POP SHOW hour.

I haven't seen it in awhile I'm sure it turns up every now and again. If you want to see it done live catch the Original Asia Tour if it comes through your town. Geoff Downes was with the Buggles before Yes and Asia and the band plays a tune from each members' other bands in the set and they really do a fun version of VKTRS.

First Trisha, please use spell checker or have someone proofread your
posts. To answer your question, your song is more than likely "Safety
dance" by Men Without Hats. It contains the opening line, "You can
dance if you want to".
