I just recently resubscribed to cable after a 3 year hiatus, specifically to get VH1 Classic again. The first few days were excellent, but now after 2 weeks, this is what I've come to be irritated by:
1) Any episode of 120 Minutes, Metal Mania, or Totally 80's has been playing pretty much the same playlist each show, but in slightly different order. There are TONS of videos they could show besides the 'standards'. Occassionally, they'll throw us a nugget or 2 of something obscure, but rarely. Lets just say, I am really sick of that Dio video for "Rainbow in the Dark"; XTC "Dear God"; and A Flock Of Seagulls: "I Ran".
2) Throwing in the classic/current motif in these series... I understand... BUT... whats with playing the current video more than once during an episode??? I am really sick of the new Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie, and REM (surprisingly, I've only caught the new Duran Duran once, but the rest of these I've seen like 10 million times already!)
3) Whats with all the commercials?? There used to be very few, and now they have them run in long blocks and its always crap for sexual enhancement or Vonage!
4) Ummm... whats with the movies and TV shows? What a waste of programming time! Thats what every other channel is for! Its starting to resemble regular VH1, MTV and MTV2 which are all absolutely nausiating! I remember when MTV2 started (and it was called M2), it was awesome... much in the vein of what VH1 classic once was, but they played new and old videos with no theme. It was random and always a surprise. Now its absolute garbage! VH1 Classic is still playing videos, but with no imagination! Its too robotic!!
I'm sure I'll come across more annoyances, but thats my inital beef after my hiatus... its starting to become clear that there was a good reason I didn't subscribe to any cable service before!
